In Vienna, there is a remainder bookshop on Wahringer Strasse, in the University District,
on the East Side, just north of the metro station. A couple of blocks further north
on Wahringer Strasse, again on the East Side, is a paper shop with some beautiful handmade
papers in the window, also elephant hide in a range of colours. This shop also has a
display window in the University metro station. Please note that many shops in
Vienna are closed on the weekend!

A book by Elsje van der Ploeg and Hilly Jongsma called Origami: Seeing with Your Hands
for teaching origami to the blind. The pictures are folded from sandpaper, the lines are
pieces of wire glued to the surface. Then they put sheets of a special kind of plastic
over the whole thing, melted the plastic a bit and vacuumed underneath. That way the
plastic takes the shape of the paper and wires. When cooled down, this plastic stays in
shape, so the actual book consists of sheets of plastic. You can feel the roughness of the
sandpaper (which stands for 'color'). The drawings are in yellow and red for the benefit
of people who can still see a little. The text is on a 1-hour compact cassette in Dutch or
English. Other languages are possible if need be. The price is 175 Guilders ($70) as each
book is made from original models.

This is a small shop which sells all kinds of Japanese things, from cards and
small toys to porcelain and collection pieces. It's the kind of shop where you
can drop in and chat with the owner and ask to be shown whatever you are looking
for, if they have it. They have an excellent selection of origami papers and a
good choice of current Japanese books. Possible the best place for origami books
and paper in all Switzerland. They don't take mail orders. To get
there, you need to take the tramway no. 12 or 13 and get off at the stop called
"Theatre de Carouge". If you are coming from the town centre, stay on
the same side of the street and walk back about 20 meters to find the shop.
